Today I watched all ten of the short films in AFI’s showcase. I’d suggest you check them out, there are some good ones (and some I didn’t care for so much). You can find them all on Youtube right here. Below is a list of the films and a short synopsis of what each one is about. I’ve starred the ones I liked the most.
1) Time Freak by Andrew Bowler *
When a guy finally figures out how to time travel, he wastes his invention trying to fix what went wrong with yesterday.
2) Photograph of Jesus by Laurie Hill in association with the Getty Images Short & Sweet Film Challenge *
A comical look at the ridiculous requests received at a giant image archive. Lots of cool stop-motion photography as well as graphic animation. Title comes from somebody’s request for a photos of Jesus.
3) Bottle by Kirsten Lepore *
A stop-motion tale of two creatures on opposite shores communicating with one another through messages in bottles.
4) The Sandpit by Sam O’Hare
The fast-paced motion of a city set to music.
5) Delmer Builds a Machine by Landon Zakheim
A little boy combines household items to build a big machine that yields an unexpected result.
6) TELEPHONEME by Swedish Secrets Pictures
A trippy video collage of sound clips, an array of colors, and lots of graphic animation.
7) Pixels by Patrick Jean *
An army of pixels bombard unsuspecting NYC and wreak colorful, comical havoc.
8) Sacramento – A Family Fable by Michael Bodie
A guy and his sister go to their mother’s house to dig up their dead dog, but end up unearthing something far worse.
9) Voice on the Line by Kelly Sears
Archival footage of telephone operators and graphic animation is set to a monologue about a secret government operation involving the operators and the callers they spoke with.
10) Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
A shell rambles about his life.
